OUR HISTORY A Legacy of Excellence Since 1962 Comprehensive Science and Technical College, Nawfia, formerly known as Anglican Technical Secondary School (A.T.S.S.), Nawfia, and Comprehensive Secondary School, Nawfia, was established in 1962 under the Anglican Communion. The school was conceived in 1960 to provide young people with quality academic education alongside practical and technical skills. Chief C. T. Onyekwelu, a prominent businessman and indigene of Nawfia, played a pivotal role in its establishment by providing the required £250 contribution. St. Michael’s Anglican Church, Nawfia, also made land available for the project. The school commenced with fewer than 30 students under its pioneer principal, Mr. Okoye Ephraim A. (1962–1971). From its early years, it combined general academic subjects with practical training in areas such as Woodwork, Metalwork, and Technical Drawing. Over the years, the institution has grown while maintaining its commitment to academic excellence, technical competence, discipline, and moral development. Its six houses—Onyekwelu, Okagbue, Okechukwu, Enemuo, Ikejiani, and Ibiam—honour individuals associated with its heritage and promote leadership, teamwork, and healthy competition. Today, the college combines academic education with technical and vocational training in areas including Electrical Installation and Maintenance, Building Construction, Plumbing and Pipe Fitting, Welding and Fabrication, Computer Information Technology, and Furniture Making and Upholstery. The school is an accredited examination and certification centre for WAEC, NECO, NABTEB, and Trade Test Certification, providing students with opportunities to pursue recognised academic and technical qualifications.
